Why Menopause Yoga?

Shortly after turning 44, I began to experience extreme fatigue, anxiety, forgetfulness, an inability to concentrate, insomnia, and this feeling that something was just "off".

As I was working as a paramedic during the pandemic, I initially wrote these changes off to stress and the long hours I was putting in. It took some time for me to realize that what was happening could also be related to my changing hormones.

I was surprised at just how unprepared I was for peri-menopause, and how little I actually knew about what to expect!

Being a long-time yogi, I started looking for ways that my yoga practice might be more supportive at this time in my life.

That is when I came across Petra Coveney and her Menopause Yoga classes and training program. It was here that I learned not only how to put my own symptoms into context, but I also heard from other women - who like me were struggling - and appreciated having an open and supportive space to share their experiences with others.

Following a day-long intro workshop with Petra, I decided to take the full Menopause Yoga (MY) teacher training in the hope that I could provide this type of space and support in my own community.

I completed the Menopause Yoga Teacher Training in March 2022. The program included how to use yoga practices to support specific menopause symptoms, as well as lectures by medical professionals and complementary practitioners - providing helpful information about HRT, aromatherapy, Ayurveda, and more.

Peri-menopause symptoms can begin as early as 35 (or earlier due to medical conditions or treatments), and we could spend as much as HALF our lives in menopause.

Join me for these quarterly Menopause workshops (beginning Spring 2023). I hope you will find them informative, supportive and FUN!

No yoga experience needed. Practice is suitable for all levels of fitness -- beginner's welcome!
